Golem shadow puppet suggests a primordial clay being that like marionettes can be brought to life as if by magic. Sculpted using gestural modelling techniques, squelching the clay between fingers, elbows and fists, this mythical figure is made by humans out of the earth. Theatrical lighting presents the possibility of playing with monstrous scale further emphasising the magical qualities of this archetype. Hanging from a metal spring, on a rusted iron structure, the piece can be stirred into life from is suspended animation. The piece explores notions of agency and taps into a Jungian understanding of the world that is intended to give viewers pause for thought. As the title suggests, ‘Be careful what you wish for’.
